Area record

Senedd records that name a place the gazetteer puts in Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd, whoever spoke. Welsh Government’s words are included as the Senedd records them. Listed newest first, never totalled.

Counted by Siambr: places assigned through the ONS Index of Place Names in Great Britain (July 2024) and ONS Output Area lookups. A place name is matched as the gazetteer prints it, case and all. It is placed in a 2026 constituency through the ONS Output Area lookups for the gazetteer's ward, community, built-up area or local authority code. A name the gazetteer gives more than one place, or a place spanning constituencies, is listed as ambiguous, as is a name the Record also prints in lower case or as part of a person's name.

Thank you. With regard to culture, to come back to that aspect, people used to play outside more. I went to Sketty Primary School in our constituency this week. One of the greatest problems is people being addicted to social media—not playing outside, but indoors. Max Boyce, when he used to sing about this four-hours-each-way match, 'When I Played for Wales'—Wales against England, it was something like 400-odd against 12—he played in Llewellyn Street in Glynneath. I've never been been to Llewellyn Street in Glynneath, but I encourage people, for preventative health, mental health, all that kind of thing, to be outside. Let's play outside more. Less social media. Less in the house. So, for multiple reasons, I think this is a good thing. Thank you. Diolch yn fawr.

Next month, Wyeside Arts Centre in Builth Wells celebrates an incredible milestone—50 years of bringing arts and culture to the heart of rural mid Wales. The fiftieth birthday weekend brings that history to life, with Welsh music, poetry, art and community participation. At its centre is Cymuned Gwy, a new bilingual work commissioned for the anniversary, inspired by the River Wye and the people who live alongside it. Wyeside is a small, independent charity, but its contribution is anything but small. Open six days a week, it provides cinema, live performance, music, exhibitions and opportunities for people to come together across a large rural area.

Ambiguous place names

These names could mean a place in Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd or somewhere else. Siambr does not choose: each name lists every place the gazetteer gives for it.
